We provide two preservation methods: Essential Preservation, our most common approach, and Enhanced Preservation, which includes additional protective treatments. Both are designed to preserve your companion for potential future restoration when scientific advances may make this possible.
Essential Preservation is the most common option for pets, offering a proven approach that works for companions of all sizes and species. With Essential Preservation, upon arrival of your pet at the Alcor facility, your companion will undergo controlled cooling to liquid nitrogen temperature before being placed in long-term storage.

Enhanced Preservation involves the introduction of specialized protocol immediately following euthanasia by a qualified veterinarian at our facility. This process assists in rapidly protecting brain and tissue structures. The perfusion of cryoprotectant may provide better preservation of tissue during cryopreservation than an Essential Preservation. Enhanced Preservation can only be performed at the Alcor facility and must be scheduled in advance.
Cryopreservation for a pet must be connected to an active Alcor human basic or cryopreservation member.

What do I do if my pet is already deceased?

The fist step is to contact Alcor immediately for guidance on the next steps. Alcor will provide instructions for proper handling, cooling, and transportation of your pet to their facility to maximize preservation quality. Please do not ship your pet without first speaking with Alcor staff and following protocols.

Currently, Alcor does not allow visits to individual pets after cryopreservation, as the storage area is strictly controlled to maintain safety and security. However, you can contact Alcor at any time for general updates about your pet’s status in storage.
Your pet is securely stored in a state-of-the-art cryogenic dewar filled with liquid nitrogen at -196°C. The facility is monitored 24/7, and liquid nitrogen levels are checked and replenished regularly by trained staff. Robust security systems and backup procedures are in place to address emergencies or equipment failures.
While the speed of technological advancement is promising, there are no guarantees or representations that the science will be advanced enough to provide any form of restoration of a pet during an owner’s lifetime.
