The Patient Care Trust (PCT) funds the ongoing care of cryopreserved patients at Alcor. This independent, legally separate trust ensures that resources will be available for your indefinite care and potential future revival.
How It Works
When you’re cryopreserved, a substantial portion of your funding is allocated to the PCT. These funds are transferred to the Alcor Care Trust (ACT) Supporting Organization, which invests them to generate returns that cover ongoing storage and maintenance costs. The ACT follows a conservative investment strategy designed to grow the principal while minimizing risk.
Your total cryopreservation funding is divided into two main portions. The first covers your initial procedures (standby, stabilization, transport, and cryopreservation). The second portion is transferred to the Patient Care Trust, which is specifically dedicated to your long-term maintenance and storage. Neuro preservation requires a smaller trust allocation than whole body preservation.
The PCT is legally separate from Alcor’s operational finances and governed by a board with a personal stake in its success—most board members have family in cryopreservation. Unlike typical trusts designed for conventional timeframes, the PCT operates on an extended timescale far beyond traditional planning horizons.
The PCT’s dual mission includes maintaining patients in optimal biostasis conditions while simultaneously building resources for the day when scientific breakthroughs might allow patients to continue their lives. This balanced approach ensures both present security and readiness for transformative medical advancements.
